SATURATION MATRIX

Saturation is a conceptual development of researches initiated with Negative Noise series, Mutatis Mutandis and the previous exhibition (Katabasis) including Frequency-1 and new sculptural works introducing notions of tone and frequency to my work. The core development of Saturation: Negative Noise-6 and Mutatis Mutandis is represented by these two works. The photographic, video and sound developments that were presented for my solo exhibition “Negative Noise/Saturation" at Yellow Cube Gallery in Paris, were sourced from these two original works.
The exhibition aimed to develop and exceed the bases laid down by Negative Noise series in its synaesthetic and haptic research. Questioning the notion of sound, pushing the oil work from its entrenchments to the limits of visual noise. Thus the five small paintings Mutatis Mutandis, created in the same interval as the first series, naturally fit into this continuity and are at the origin of the video images.

The sound of the video installation has been captured directly from the art works of my studio (by percussion, scratching, breaking, tearing, etc. . . ) and in particular the work of recording Negative Noise-6, by scraping the grooves that finally revealed themselves in a new dimension. The saturated sounds and images lead the viewer to question the link between the works exposed and their interaction in space.

Oil painting, when changing its support, gradually lost its hierarchical place, turning into a moving image… an illegible image corroded by the appearance of poorly arranged, poorly manufactured pixels, just as the sounds taken from the workshop that I distorted and diverted have become noises. The network of flows created by the spatialized installation has opened up to the exploration of a saturation blurring the boundaries between the senses and the fields, questioning the nature of images from its creation to its destruction, passing through its sample and its diversion.
